See all 11 parts!!! Arguably the most intelligently written film to feature the masterful stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen, Jason and the Argonauts is a colorful adventure that takes full advantage of Harryhausen's "Dynarama" process. Inspired by the Greek myth, the story begins when the fearless explorer Jason (Todd Armstrong) returns to the kingdom of Thessaly to make his rightful claim to the throne, but the gods proclaim that he must first find the magical Golden Fleece. Consulting Hera, the queen of gods, Jason recruits the brave Argonauts to crew his ship, and they embark on their eventful journey. Along the way they encounter a variety of mythic creatures, including the 100-foot bronze god Talos, the batlike Harpies, the seven-headed reptilian Hydra, and an army of skeletons wielding sword and shield. This last sequence remains one of the finest that Harryhausen ever created, and it's still as thrilling as anything from the age of digital special effects. Harryhausen was the true auteur of his fantasy films, and his brilliant animation evokes a timeless sense of wonder. Jason and the Argonauts is a prime showcase for Harryhausen's talent--a wondrous product of pure imagination and filmmaking ingenuity.

  • The Talos scene used to scare the heck out of me...

  • Ray Harryhausen is the genius of "Special Effects", in my opinion.

  • damn talos missed everything up!!!

and his scary as hell like others said with the music the scene is just epic!!!

  • So, despite repeated warnings to only take food and water, and despite having decided that the place was a 'treasure chamber of the gods', Hercules STILL decided to take some stuff?

  • Oh Hercules your so stupid...

  • What part of take only food and water and nothing else or Talos will get you, was unclear to Hercules?

  • @bladrunner6 this is better than clash of the titans

  • 6:30 look at the hand of Thalos, a piecemaster of modelling! it looks real!

  • When you first see Talos you just know that something horrible is going to happen - the eerie creaking as he moves is truly scary!

    A brilliant creation by Harryhausen.

  • Best scene in the movie, IMO, scares the crap out of me; the lack of expression on his face and the movement, the screaking of the metal, etc and his size, just truly terrifying. Seeing him turn his head, then climb down off his pedestal, just horrifying beyond belief.

  • goin to see the remake of Clash of the Titans today, so i decided to this as a warm up. havent seen it in years... LOVE IT!!!

  • Yes, the jerkiness is what makes it scary. I don't know if you remember the BBC programme Screen Test but when I was 6 years old there was a trailer for it on TV. Michael Rodd introduced the clips that would be shown. One was from Jason and the Argonauts. The moment Talos emerged from behind the rock face I hid behind my parents' sofa. I also remember thinking "Argonauts? Shouldn't it be Jason and the Astronauts"
