One of The Real & becoming extinct individuals.I met Mark a few times in my friend Butch's Eng.Office in Northborough. Mark treated me like we had been friends
Forever.Butch would say he's "The BIRD" he's "The BIRD" I new nothing Duh!since I didn't follow Baseball. Only Now am I learning how Respected & popular Mark was..Mark & Butch were Tight.Unbelievably Mark Passed on April 13, 09 & My Good Friend Butch on May 1, 09 Both Butch & Mark were" Top of The Top" God Speed my most cherished Friends
I can't believe Hollywood hasn't produced a credible, decent-sized budget bio-pic on The Bird. It would make a great movie. I would go see it. But now they would have to use CGI to reproduce Tiger Stadium, much like they did for Yankee Stadium in" 61*".
God, what a flake! But in a good way. It's people like him that make the game as fun as it is. People always remember Yogi, the Bird, Turk Wendell, John Kruk...This really is the best tribute to the Bird I can think of.
Anyone watching: be sure to check out the Sports Illustrated vault. A few years ago, they did a "Where are they now?" feature on him. He was just as much of a character in retirement.

You can see why he was so hard to hit: good velocity, good movement, and with that arm angle it was easy for him to keep the ball down.

RIP, Bird. Do the players in 1976 look thin and gangly in comparison to 2009 MLB players, or is it my imagination?
