The Carter Brothers (Danny Reid Carter and Tim Carter) perform "Shelby Street". They're joined by Ross Sermons on bass and Dan Sherrill on the drums.
Like Brother Danny, Tim Carter was influenced very early on by the strains of the Appalachian folk and bluegrass music that surrounded them in North Carolina. In his early teens Tim became obsessed with the banjo and spent many hours everyday learning the different styles of the great N.C. players. Earl Scruggs and Don Reno were especially influential in Tim's development as a banjo player. Tim played in various bluegrass-folk bands while in college in Boone, N.C. After college he and Brother Danny teamed up to pursue their musical journey together as an acoustic duo. They began playing the ski resorts and various venues in the mountains of N.C. Soon the urge to experiment and create led them towards a more folk/rock/bluegrass direction by adding drums and bass to their ever developing sound. About this time Tim began learning and playing the mandolin and harmonica. The electric/acoustic, folk/rock/bluegrass/blues sound of the Brothers was born!
Now residing in Nashville Tim, between Carter Brothers tours, is pursuing his Grammy Award winning skills as a producer/engineer. He designed and built the Brothers 'TreeHouse' recording studio on the property of their home in the hills of Tennessee. Tim is also a fine writer of instrumental music. "Tim is always experimenting with sounds and rhythms, never ceases to amaze me and is a constant source of inspiration" says Brother Dan. He also has an artists agreement with DreamWorks Nashville.

Nechville acoustic/electric banjos, Collings acoustic/electric guitar, and Lawrence Smart acoustic/electric mandolins. Onstage amplification is usually Fender amps and direct to the mixing console.
Danny Carter: Vocals, Guitars
As a youngster Danny was influenced musically in many different directions. From the big band sounds and poetry that he heard on his fathers daily radio shows to the intricate chord patterns and unusual harmonies of the Beatles. Always fascinated by rhythms, he began drum lessons at the age of 10 until he was 15 years old. About that time he switched full time to playing guitar. Danny was totally blown away the first time that he heard the heavy celtic-folk-rock-blues stylings of Led Zeppelins Jimmy Page, which still influences him to this day. Eric Claptons smooth confident playing and sweet growling vocals were also influential in his early development as a guitarist-vocalist. Of course growing up in the hills of North Carolina Danny was always exposed to the Appalachian strains of bluegrass music that has always been so prominent there. Later on he would come to appreciate and teach himself the fiery acoustic guitar playing of Doc Watson, Clarence White, Elizabeth Cotton and many others that came out of the hills of Appalachia. "You know, after awhile I began to discover that all this music that I loved so much was basically the blues textured in different formats...I think Bill Monroe was one of the best blues writers of all time". Danny played in various blues-rock bands in the South before finally teaming up with Tim in the early 80's It was clearly evident that Dannys hard driving blues~rock stylings coupled with Tims acoustic-folk~bluegrass style, that this was not going to be just another bluegrass band from North Carolina....!
As a writer Danny composes in the style of a storyteller. "Its mostly fiction stuff with undertones into my personal life" says Dan. "I like to keep the lyrics a bit edgy and thought provoking while using interesting chord patterns". Danny has maintained an artists publishing agreement with DreamWorks Nashville for over 10 years. About all this he says "I feel so blessed to spend my life writing and performing along with Tim. I have the utmost respect and love for him...as a musician and a friend". "I look forward to what we will do together in the future"....
For recording and performing Danny plays a vintage 1967 Rickenbacker 360-12 string, Standard and Custom Fender Strats and a Gibson Les Paul Jr '54 re-issue for electrics along with various Martin and Collings acoustics. For the electrics he uses Marshall, Fender and Roland amplification. For the acoustics he goes from a Fishman Platinum EQ/DI directly to the main console.
He incorporates a custom built effects pedalboard loaded with a Boss TU-2 tuner, CH-1 Super Chorus, DD-3 Digital Delay, Keeley Compressor, MXR Micro Amp and a Boss AB-2 box to quick~switch between the electrics and acoustics. He also uses an Xotic AC Booster pedal along with a channel-switching footbox to the amps for tube overdrive/distortion on the electrics.

I was visiting Martinsville, In this weekend and saw them. I was blown away. These guys are not just great musicians but are also very wonderful people. Of course I would have expected that from the nephews of June Carter-Cash. They deserve to be on top with their music. What amazing talent. My wife and I both absolutely loved their concert.

The dude on the Rickenbacher... 'da man...Danny Reid Carter. And his brother, Tim, on the mandolin. Classic song...wonderful harmonies... a slice of Americana.
