Asbury Park NJ
July 19, 2008

This Asbury Park location opened in 1962. In the late 1980s, there were ten Howard Johnson's restaurants in NJ, but this was the last one left and still in it's orginal ocean front designed building.
This former Howard Johnson's was renovated and reopened as Salt Water Beach Cafe (summer 2007) on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. Howard Johnson's is a chain of restaurants and hotels, located primarily throughout the United States of America. The name is derived from the founder of the original company, Howard Deering Johnson, who started the initial chain of restaurants and motels. Howard Johnson hotels are now part of Wyndham Worldwide, formerly a part of Cendant.
