dbot20 - actually, you are very wrong. almost all of that shit is used in metal especially diminished and augmented, because new age progressive death metal is usually abstract and polymodal. give it a search. i do agree though jazz guys are pretty nuts too. but then again, every genre has its crazy guys. btw brad paisley is sick so agree to that one too
jazz band at school isnt real jazz. check out ted greene. debatably one of the best guitar players and musical geniuses of the century. jazz player (among other styles). jazz (like anything) can be very complex or simple. kind of like bring me the horizon. theyre metal but they still suck and arent very hard to play their shit. yes metal is complex. but i cant say its more complex than other music. it doesnt matter anyways because the most complex is classical (metal cant touch it)
That's not necessarily true. A lot of metal bands have been incorporating full orchestral arrangement, done by themselves, into their songs, making it EXTREMELY complex, like classical music. And then, of course, there is neoclassical metal, like Yngwie Malmsteen, which is, again, pretty complex.
yngwie is one of my favorites. metal can be complex but the theory behind classical in four part harmony and fugues and 11 part chords and all that nuts shit is beyond other genres. plus they make it sound more emotional and musical than other style at the same time. dont get me wrong i like metal but i think classical is way harder to write
bro, unless you're zakk wylde or dimebag, metal guitar has no emotion to it, it's just guys playing fast. Jazz, Country, and Blues is where all the talent is at. Jazz is much more complex with all the diminished, augmented, minor, major, and half diminished chord types. All metal is is major or minor. You've obviously never seen a good jazz or country guitarist.
NO Way man heavy metal and death metal is some of the most complicated stuff to play or write. it brings out the utmost talent in everyone just look at brain drill- apocalyptic feasting one of the craziest songs ever he sweep picks at crazy speeds for the main riff. I wanna see jimmy hendriks do that instead of getting high.
ok but what people say by this is that death metal and metal period is very formulated and just because a not combination is complicated doesnt mean its good. to me its like cool you can play that but whats the point unless its musical. its like a warm up. yes theyre technically skilled but thats a bout it. thats just from someone else's point of view. i dont agree. i love human abstract, isis, born of osiris, lamb of god, slayer etc
