Melbourne will celebrate its third Anatolian Cultures and Arts Festival on 4-5 February 2012. Plus, this year is going to be bigger, better and definitely longer with 4 extra days of exhibitions from 6- 9 February.
Organized by Istanbul Cultural and Arts Centre in conjunction with Melbourne Young Businessmen Association (MYBA) with the support of the Melbourne Turkish Consulate, the (free entry) festival welcomes everyone of all ages, cultures and faith groups.
The first two days of the festival will be focused on a program of stage shows and concerts.
Upon arrivalat the replica of the historical gates, visitors will be welcomed by Ottoman and Roman nobles. Visitors will walk across to the custom-made marquees which replicate the grand bazaar of Istanbul.These uniquely decorated marquees will displaytraditional furniture, clothing and artwork and offer slowly brewed Turkish coffees.
Outside the historic marquees, the senses of guests will be enticed by a wonderful array of smells from the Turkish culinary kitchen.
Harmonious Turkish music willfill the air, providing a sense of serenity to guests as they trythe mouth-wateringşişkebaband Turkish pastry.
The festivalwill continue to entertain with the presentation of folkdances from the different regions of Turkey, including from the Black Sea and Western Anatolian regions.
Guests will take a trip back to the glorious pages of history as they observe the Ottoman Historical Military Band in their entire splendor.
The spotlight will also be on the brave wrestlers who will display their fine skills in outwitting their opponents in traditional Turkish oil wrestling.
This ensuing livelinesswill thensubside as guests watchthe majestic Whirling Dervishes, enthralled by harmonious rhythms and soothing Sufi melodies.
Visitorswillthen listen to traditional music inspired by the Urfa region performed by Melbourne based 'Istanbul Cultural and Arts Centre' choir group lead by composer ZakirYıldırım.
The youth will be treated with Anatolian rock songs performed by rock group Nidawhichwill astoundlisteners with an upbeat interpretation of popular Turkish ballads.
As the sunsets and the stars light up the sky, guests will welcomethe Turkish staronto the open air concert stage, Mustafa Keser, captivating heartswith hisexceptional voice.
The last four days will continue with exhibitions, food stalls, and live art shows providing festivities until Thursday for those visitors who missed out on the weekend.
Anatolian Culture and Arts Festival will take locals on a magical journey into Anatoliain the heart of Melbourne's Federation Square.
