I'm glad the owner elected to repair the original speaker as the Philco 90 isn't some run-of-the-mill radio.
But this is getting scary, Rick. I'm understanding everything you say and do. And it only took two years. The teaching was great...the student was slow. :-)
I did replace the field coil with a two resistors, there on the workbench, and used a PM speaker for testing the radio. I gave the owner links to speaker repair, and he has decided to send it off for repair. When we first talked I told him that if he did not want to repair the speaker we could just keep the original, original and fix it later and use a modern PM until then. But he is going to send it out, which is great. Thanks.
When I saw the wirewound resistor, I thought you replaced original field coil speaker with a PM type. I read that a resistor can take the place of a field coil of a speaker if you replace with a PM type speaker, but I rather have the original field coil speaker in there and use the modern setup temperarily.
Hey John,
I don't worry about how long it takes to get something into my head, because once it is there, it's there. Thanks
Regards,
Rick

Sounds very clear!
