This was the opening theme for NBC's Game of the Week telecasts in 1985.

  • I Believe This Was A Video Clip Of NBC Sports' Major League Baseball Game Of The Week: New York Mets Vs. Cincinnati Reds Video Open From Saturday Afternoon, May 4, 1985.

  • @radiodj1520 It was. I put an '85 Reds open up yesterday, but it was flagged and I'm thinking it was because I included the date in the description (it was the game where a certain ineligible player broke a certain all-time record). So I was paranoid about this one, and left it vague. I'm looking for a different '85 game to get the Reds open represented. The bigger question about this one is, how did you know that?

  • Remember when baseball would actually show teams that were good...and not just the Yankees and Red Sox on national TV?

  • I like that this opening has an apparently more orchestrated version of the 1984 theme.

  • Great opening music theme

    Much better than today....

  • @cbaldwinjr I would give you five thumbs up if I could on that comment

  • @JMAZZ80 they were dreadful in the 80's but hey they were still new york's baseball team even though the mets had sucess back then

  • @abernam Yeah, he used as a spot starter here and there before he was moved to the bullpen full-time. I don't remember him starting any games in 1986 so this was probably one of the last times he started a game. One of their starters at this time was injured, Bruce Brenemyi(?) I mangled the name, I know so Roger was probably filling in for him.

  • McDowell was the Mets starter?

  • ... Only question I have to ask is - did Pete Rose bet on this one?

  • @cbaldwinjr yeah I agree

  • The Yankees ARE baseball!

  • Good old days, I remember when Cincinnati use to play the opening game of every baseball season, I hate these money hungry men we have today, where has the purist gone.

  • The Costas voiceover sounds contemporary, but the music and graphics make this seem dated today.
