@Marc91ish press multiplayer instead of single player. and then enter in the IP address of the server you want to join. if you don't have one of your own, you'll have to do a search to find a public server. drop into the minecraft forums.

To get on the server. You have to earn it, And, he wont tell you the ip. It would be whitelisted anyway!
