Want to see what my homemade 12v short finding automotive circuit breakers look like? I posted pictures of them here http://www.youfixcars.com/electrical-shorts.html
Finding automotive electrical shorts that blow fuses can be time consuming. This video shows you a logical method you can use to hunt down wiring short circuits in your car. Also included is information about the inexpensive tools I use to save on replacement fuses. Using an automotive circuit breaker that is the same size as the fuse that is blowing can help isolate the shorted area.
After a little investigation it seems my car has a common issue where it melts feeds to the blower. On my car someone has taken a feed from the back of one of the 12v sockets to feed the blower. When I had the three devices fed from this 12v supply AND the aircon going it must have blown the feed fuse to that 12v but can I find that fuse? Also rather than having 12v at the 12v socket, I have 5.5v. Any clues why? The car is a fiat Multiupla uk spec 2002 model.

Nice video, thanks for making it. It doesnt solve my problem but I did learn something from it none the less. My issue is that I have lost power supply to the cigarette lighter in the car and also the blower no longer works. they both dropped out at the same time on a drive back from Spain to the UK. At the time we had the Air con going hard and three devices in the cigarette lighter, two DVD players for the kids and the sat nav. All fuses seem to be ok. Tough journey after losing those!!

@Einsteinian99 , did you have a stop tail globe in the wrong way? I've seen this happen a few times

@Einsteinian99 Check your tail lights bulb sockets that possibly crosslink the bulb's point.

I have Haynes manual (wiring diagram) What is order of components? Battery-fuse box- light switch, turn signal switch, brake pedal switch, then tail lights? After I replaced turn signal switch and signaled with lever; the fuse blew. Also, my dash lights come on when I hit brake pedal. What is going on? Please help. Thanks in advance. Great vid by the way.

Can you have a short that does not break the circuit? I have 88 Ford bronco. When I turn lights on both tail lights and brake lights come on so brake lights always on when lights on. When I hit brakes during day (lights off) they come on fine but running tail light comes on too. I've replaced light switch, turn signal switch in column. (pulled dash out- was wire mess) Am confused about where to start to look for short. fuses are fine. Hazards don't work either
