This is the third of three clips from the government documentary "Poverty in Rural America." It was produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1965. It shows that poverty still existed in many rural parts of America, in spite of the general prosperity of the time. The documentary also shows some of the ways the federal government was trying to improve lives by working with local communities on various education and economic development programs. Posted by David Burns for the Fasttrack American History Project.
