Best hit: The first hard hat award goes to Kenny Vaccaro, the sophomore safety who should rack up plenty more by the time he's done on the Forty Acres. Vaccaro blew up a short pass in the flat to running back Tré Newton, causing an incompletion and plenty of "oohs" from the crowd.

Best catch: Soon-to-be sophomore DeSean Hales made a handful of big plays at receiver as he racked up 77 yards and a score on three catches, all from quarterback Garrett Gilbert. The first saw him break over the middle for a 41-yard score. He followed that with two 18-yard catches running across the field, the second coming over Vaccaro while stumbling to the ground. McCoy to Shipley 2.0?

Best pass: There were a lot of them. Gilbert put up a Colt McCoy-like 10-of-13 performance, with three touchdowns. His best throw might have been his first score, gunning the ball over the middle to the streaking Hales right in stride. Also, freshman QB Connor Wood made his own claim on the last play of the game, hitting Trey Graham in the back of the end zone for a 5-yard score.

Best moment: The punt team might have been halfway on the field when they saw Jeremy Hills catch a short pass in the flats on third down, well short of the sticks. But Hills weaved a little magic, flying by a defender up the right sideline then cutting back infield, stiff-arming a safety and running for a 52-yard touchdown.

I hope the longhorns play better next season. It's just embarrassing that we lost seven games in 2010, we played like shit the whole season and we need to re-group, our offense line sucks and we need a better defense!
