I want to be absolutely sure. Do you sand the entire car even if there are no scratches or dings? What grit? Thanks!

i want to paint my 04 sentra. someone really key'd the hell out of it. and it has a half a dollar dent on the edge of trunk. How do i get rid of that? is it like the first step where i sand it with 100 grit and then put putty inside? it's about half an inch depth dent...

@Xytos The point of the red primer is called a "guide coat". You spray a little all over so that you can keep track of where you have already sanded. If you have sanded back all the guide coat, generally you have sanded the whole panel.

@hoffmachine Depends on your car. For my little E30 Bmw, you have to take the interior door panel apart to get at the handle. Just consult your car's schematics or manual for info.

why do we need the red primer again?

befor primering you shoud use p400 because p180 is too corse the primer will thindown after time and will show and befor painting after sanding primer with p400 go over it with p800 this to is important
