Part 1. Putting a fishingnet under the ice is a lot of work, but once you've got the net in place, you can keep it there all the winter: You can empty it every day and even substitute it with a clean net when needed, without having to do the whole job from the beginning, if you always keep a cord under the ice where the net is supposed to be.

I had some problems with the camera, so I had to mix two different takes to get the different stages of the procedure. Even so, I missed some, like the making of the basic holes in the ice in the beginning and in the place where the red board stopped, but I think anyone can figure that out anyway, so it shouldn't matter that much.

How to retrieve the net and remove the fish: See Fishing Nets under the Ice, part 2.

BY THE WAY: HAD TO REMOVE THE VANGELIS MUSIC BECAUSE THE VIDEO GOT BLOCKED IN SO MANY COUNTRIES BECAUSE OF IT

  • i have never seen ice fishing done that way and i ice fish alot

dont you catch alot of fish that are to small that way?

how long do you leave the net?

  • This is a traditional way to ice fish with nets, exept we use modern equipment. Since I made that video, we have had very mild winters, so we haven't done much fishing like this. Normally the nets are left in the water as long as they are clean enough. They are pulled in once a day and the fish are removed (always leaving one cord under the ice so you can pull the net back again or you can tie another net to the cord). The size of the fish depends on the size of the holes in the nets.

  • Don't you wingnuts know this is illegal?

  • Is this illegal in your country? Interesting... How come?

  • nice, but wheres the fish!!! lol . impressive

  • Thanks! I reall meant to make a continuation showing how to pull out the fish too, but I hurt my foot pretty bad (slipping on the ice!) and the doctors told me not to walk on it for weeks. By the time it got better most of the ice had melted. Maybe I'll tube the fish-getting part next winter and put it in as a response to this one :)

  • I still didn't get it. Why go through all that business with holes and strings and whatever that was when you could just chop your hole and drop a line and catch fish?
