This sounds a long way below standard 5 string tuning, am I right? Also, what style of music would you call this? Old-time? I'm trying to find a melodeon tutorial to give me some of the basics, and can't find anything suitable. Perhaps I need to page Mr Van Eycken personally ;)

Yeah, its a long way below. Perhaps even an octave, but that's not unusual for fretless banjos. I dunno what I'd call it. It's frailing or clawhammer picking, but the tune isn't an old-time one so it's just me messing around really!
With the melodeon I'd suggest not over-thinking it and just squeezing! I couldn't get on with it myself and went back to chromatic accordion.
