Technique as it became known, to provide a agricultural educational system for the noir
peasantry under a Dr. George F. Freeman. This was "a matter of extreme social
sensitivity for the elite," who feared both the social consequences of an educated noir
peasantry and the loss of the noirs' loyalty to the blancs, who were improving their
lives.68”

“One area in which the Americans encountered an immense amount of resistance
was in the area of public education. In his memo for President Harding, Sumner Welles
accused the Haitian elite publicly funding education at adequate levels, while actually
pocketing the bulk of the money for themselves.67 In 1923, General Russell instituted a

Without making excuses for either Duvalier or Aristide, but I must say that the social inequalities in our society created both. Duvalier created the “Macoutes” after a failed attempt to a coup d’etat. Certain schools were reserved to the elite (College Bird for instance).
I will leave you with this peace that I copied from a paper … did not do the research to validate yet.

They built 210 bridges, the telephone and telegraph system, hospitals, the “Service de Sante Publique”, etc. These are not contributions of the elite. The Haitian elite is full of prejudices (Their cleaning lady who never went to school has to speak French to their kids … reminds me of the famous “Le dinner est pareur” from Melanie in the Languichatte series).

As far as the comments blaming Duvalier and Aristide I would urge every single of you to take a deeper look into our history. Briefly, we were independent in 1804 and by 1807 the country was already divided. From 1807 to 1814/15 we had it all from coup d’etats to assassinations and dictatorships. Despite all the atrocities during the US occupation of 1915-1934, it was the only time we saw a glimpse of light.

First of all I want to send out my condolences to the Gaetjens’ family. I can only imagine how painful it must be to lose a loved one in those conditions. I sincerely hope that you can find peace.

This story is similar to countries suffering from the "brain drain" theory. Papa Doc forced the relocation and exodus of the haitian elite, who would have been the future of haiti. Joe was an example of how haitian soccer could of gone to the next level, from a man who had experience it all. Now haitian soccer is nothing, shameful to watch all because there is no qualified coaches. I gave him alot of credit for returning to haiti even though he would have had a greater career in the USA .

@timaliceetbouqui, Duvalier is not the evil monster, but the so-called elite poisoned with westernized french-usa blood from the pit of hell. Haitians are Levites from the tribes of Yisrael who, according to curse mentioned in Deuteronomy 28:15-67, were brought as slaves on ships to the americas. The g8-nations (beast with spoken in Revelation 12) are about to make a covenant with china the dragon and usher in the anti-Messhiach; you've not seen evil yet. Blessing, Peace & Shalom,

Thank you for this clip. Death of a Legend.
I do not agree with your comments. That story is not only sad, but shameful for all of us who had a leader in the past like this evil-monster, Francois Duvalier.
By the way, do have personal problems with hatian elite?
Let me remind you something !Nowadays and In the past, the haitian elites-educated mulatoes or blacks are precious landmarks of the nation. Like Gaetan who came in US to study, thounsands of us are scattered around the world universities to imitate him. What about you?
