Re: Proof God is Real

This is a video response to refute Shawn's argument that God is Real.

After watching the video, if you're still confused, or you want to know more about what I'm trying to say in this video, here's a more well thought-out argument:

If you think of a number line;
... -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3 +4 +5 ...
you can see that it is infinite, and it doesn't start anywhere.

So if I promised that you would get to the number 0 after an infinite number of numbers, would you ever get to 0? Of course not, because nothing can happen between now and an infinite, but that doesn't prove that there can't be an infinite before or after something. If there are an infinite amount of numbers less than 0, is it possible for one to ever count to the number 0? Of course we can, it just depends where we start counting. Shawn's argument implies that we need to start counting at the beginning of that infinite number...but there is no beginning of an infinite number, so you'll have to pick a point from which to start counting.

Also, time is just a measurement of action, it's not something that must exist in order for us to have action. So, one could say that time began when the first action ever took place (big bang? creationism? something else?) Or, since somebody could easily ask "how long had nothing been going on before the first thing happened?" we could say "an infinite amount of time before that first thing happened" and thus we have an infinite amount of time moving backwards from the point at which the first thing happened. So, perhaps we can easily say that there has already been an infinite amount of time before now and there will be an infinite amount of time from the point at which the last thing happens.

Shawn is looking at "infinite" as a number or self-contained unit, as if I can promise you something, but only if an infinite amount of time has passed between now and then. That's the wrong way of looking at it. I look at it more as the universe. Imagine that if I rode a spaceship off of Earth and into space. Presuming that the universe is infinite, I will never reach any sort of end, I will just keep going for an infinite amount of time. Now view that infinite universe as time.

If I promise to give you a chocolate bar after you travel through an infinite amount of space, will I ever give you the chocolate bar? No, because it goes on forever, it will never end. That doesn't prove that the universe must be finite. "If there is an infinite amount of space, how could we ever get to this point in space?" Stop thinking of it as a linear beginning and end. Think of it as a never ending abyss of time and space.

Did that make any sense?

Well please enlighten me in this as your argument does not make sense you have the numberline with negative numbers but if thats the case then this represents a time before our ( negative numbers) and 0 is an ending then one is where it could carry on so therefore time is infinite because if you have 0 then times that by any amount u still have zero therefore something must have made it by adding it to 0

@MuSiCrEcOrD5 You're thinking so linearly. I was thinking of it as if the current moment is always 0, and you can go infinitely in either direction (before right now and after).

I mean, clearly I'm just theorizing here, but in this way of thinking, all time exists at once, we just experience it moment by moment. Does that make a bit more sense, in a crazy-ass philosophical way of thinking about time?

you know, when you REALLY think about it, how can god exist, it literally doesn't make sense and CAN'T make sense, i have no problem with being an athiest, i have no doubts that the is no god, it just sounds stupid that something so inexplained and based on nothing more than a book can be so widely believed, and for any christians that think they're being smart, NO, i do not 100% think we're here because of the big bang, but it's based completely on FACTS and research, there is clear evidence

also, explain to me why the universe IS expanding at uniform velocity... the general thing that indicates expansion of that scale is an explosion...

and why would your "GOD" create the entire universe with billions of quadrillions of stars and quadrillions of planets, only for him to put life on 1 little rock? challenge me bro, i can go ALL day...

Hey, i think I fell in love. lol. You're so calm and collected. So, I was contemplating on whether I should watch this video or not. Most videos about god say that he is't real. You didn't choose a side. I see that this video is more based on science than god. I beleaf that Science exists because of God. Ultradasilva is also right, *user below me*. Humans will never fully understand God's design. Also, your points are very valid and something I think about everyday. Thanks for your take on this.
