@vigilanteartist I tend to fancy its a story about a guy telling another guy that he's going to give up wall st. for jazz culture while sitting at bar. We don't know if he ever goes through with it.
Best sax solo ever! I remember as a little kid seeing commercials for this album. That sax solo would just run through my body and give me goosebumps. It used to trick my dad out that I like this type of music at such an early age.
@timray5103 This song's not really about Alabama, though. I think it was more mocking of Alabama than anything else, considering they called Tide fans "cracker assholes" in an interview once when asked about this song. If anything, the songs more about the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, considering that's what the narrator identifies himself with.
Personally, I think the song's about a guy giving up social/corporate climbing for Jazz culture.

Facing the future at age 16 at the Arlen House
pool deck.... poor me... this song foretold so much as
I enjoyed the heartbreak and true love of friends I never knew would be
in my life. Love and heartache....all came my way in the ensuing years...
But this is overly self indulgent crap, BTW...as I saw the military death ramp for all the years
beyond...the greatest patriots suffered for wealthy idiots. Makes me vomit when
I think of what we have been "defending."
