Mary Korytkowski M.D., Professor of Medicine; Chief, Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism; and Director of Diabetes Quality Improvement at The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, presented "Insulin Therapy in the Hospitalized Patient" at University of Louisville Department of Medicine Grand Rounds on November 14, 2013.

The talk focused on describing the association between hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia and adverse patient outcomes, identifying glycemic targets for critically ill and non-critically ill patients with and without a history of diabetes, prescribing and adjusting insulin therapy according to nutritional and clinical status for hospitalized patients with diabetes or newly recognized hyperglycemia, and defining methods for prevention of hypoglycemia.
