ANWR isn't what people think. In 1994 Global Marine, Fairweather & ARCO drilled a test well that was expected to produce upwards of 2000Bbls/day just outside ANWR. The job was supposed to last 5-8 years with 28 wells from the location. It was a dry hole and the project was abandoned. Authorization to drill these wells was finally given by congress in 1994 after 24 years of litigation and congressional hearings costing billions. Big disappointment, I know, I was there.
