@jayfey77 hey do you happen to have the SemiFinal match where Mandlikova beats Evert at this same USO 1985? I can't find any youtube where Hana beats Evert, only the other way round :-)
Hana - One of my favourite players ever. With a tighter rein on her nerves and emotions, I believe she would have been among the greatest ever. Like Mauresmo in many, many ways. So wish women would look back and see how the game should be played. Look @ Henin. I don't like her, but even I can't deny that I watch her just for her all-court ability. I think women like Azarenka and Wozniacki would do well to watch a match like this over and over and over again to really raise the bar.
ur an idio.rafter didnt retire that long ago.the players he played against are still playing toay.same with sampras he didnt retire thatr long ago he took federer to 5 sets playing the serve and volly game so ur full of shit saying the game is light years from when these guys played.i know they could win today with their serve and volley game.if they were still in their prime.
I hear you on some of that, but again the reference point historically is old. 1991 is light years away from 2010 in terms of how the ball is struck and the kind of power that is out there today. It takes a perfect SV player to even come close, unfortunately.
mac could beat players today like serena.tennis isnt about power.u can beat power with the volley.thats why edberg beat people who were much stronger than him like lendl and courier and sampras and agassi.the volley takes away speed and power.navratilova proved that too beating graf at the 91 us open.
another dominant serve and volleyer player will return one day and dominate like navratilova or edberg and becker and sampras and rafter did.it can be done in todays game it wasnt that long ago when rafter and sampras retired they were playing players that are still on the tour like federer.
@jayfey77 Problem is the game's all changed now. The grass is slower, the serve and volley game is all but dead, much as I love it. And yah Martina could hang late into her playing days but:
1) she's phenomenal
2) the game was just starting to radically change when she was heading out.
yeah and jana was already an old woman near retirement you fool.id rather be young than old and near retirement playing somone thats young.its like when martina navratilova was losing to playerswho were really young, everyone knew a young martina would have wiped the floor with them since she was 45 losing to these young players in 3 sets.you are an idiot to not see that.
