Introducing a new member of the Computer Science department at Aberystwyth University.
The iCub is a humanoid robot, developed under the RobotCub project (http://www.robotcub.org/index.php/robotcub). It is a 53 degree-of-freedom robot, roughly 1m tall, and is equipped with visual, vestibular, auditory, haptic, proprioceptive, and torque sensors. We are using it within the IM-CLeVeR project (http://www.im-clever.eu/)to investigate developmental learning processes.
This video demonstrates some of the mechanical abilities of the iCub robot. Please note that all moves performed by the iCub were programmed by hand and were not a result of our developmental algorithms (any resemblance to actual intelligent behaviour is purely coincidental)! We will aim to upload new videos as our experiments progress. Watch this space...
For more details on the iCub and our research visit http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/cs/research/ir/robots/icub/
Thanks to Ric Lloyd of Cleftec (http://www.cleftec.co.uk/) for composing and donating the soundtrack.

Off-topic: I will most-likely accept my offer for CompSci with industrial year at Aber, will it be practical to take my enormous desktop PC AND laptop to the on-site accommodation?
