Book scrapped by MOD to be re-released 14.03.11

A book which the MOD paid £150,000 to pulp goes back on sale this week after the author and publishers agreed to remove 50 words. 'Dead Men Risen' tells the story of the Welsh Guards under Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe - the most senior British army officer to die in Afghanistan. Colonel Thorneloe was taking part in Operation Panther's Claw in 2009 at the time of his death. He is believed to have expressed concerns that he did not have enough troops or resources available to fight the operation effectively. The book's author Toby Harnden is the Telegraph's US Editor and was a close friend of Colonel Thorneloe. British Forces News presenter Kate Gerbeau asked Toby Harndon about his reaction to the MOD's decision to shred the first edition of his book.
