The concept of glycemic load can be a confusing one. Here, Dr. Weil
clarifies the difference between glycemic load and glycemic index,
and offers tips on how to lower the glycemic load of otherwise
high-glycemic foods.

  • The Dr. himself seems confused here. G.I. & G.L. ARE NOT even explained nor is his "point" made clear. The G.I. of foods SHOULD be the factor, otherwise YES, you'll find athletes who will walk around all day eating baby carrots from a bag thinking it's healthy. The load then is the volume, so this is Obvious, but no, I would still rather see people aware of the Actual Index, & the overall volume then becomes obvious. ONE carrot eaten in a 2,000 cal meal of fats & grains has a lowered G.I. dah?

  • What about INSULIN INDEX?

  • I think Dr. Weil got this wrong, you cannot water down glycemic load, it can only be added because GL already considers the actual size of the portion, GI food can be averaged with lower (or higher) GI foods because of the standarised nature of the measurement (50 grs of carb reference)

  • This is the smartest man on the face of the earth. We should listen to him and reach the greatest level of health possible.
