This animation begins at the Flying M Ranch in Nevada and quickly transitions over the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the location of the crash site. High resolution (1m) texture maps are utilized for accurate representations of surface detail. USGS NED elevation data provides the height information for this terrain model. Detail views of the crash site include the location of his ID, a "piece of plastic" and shirt. A "waterfill" is utilized to illustrate equal elevations across the mountains near the location of the wreckage. The fill is drawn from 8500 feet up to 10,121 feet (the altitude at the location of impact according to the NTSB preliminary report for N240R). 3D Animation is a useful tool in understanding or reconstructing accidents and situations.
