@englishfrenchgerman You worship God in spirit and in truth thru Jesus. Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Hindu, Atheist, Agnostic, Satanist, Buddist, Baptist, Methodist, etc., are just superficial names to God. Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth...13For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Maybe they meant that we must hold out our hand to God/ Jesus for salvation. Or that we should come empty handed without an indulgence which after all could be bought for someone else or without really repenting what you had done. While we maybe passive in the act of salvation itself we first have to show somehow that we want to be saved though. Whether that happens through a prayer or something else in that way we hold out our hand to be taken and saved.
