'Ohu Gon, senior scientist and cultural consultant for the Nature Conservancy Hawai'i, wrote this oli komo (entry chant) for Hōkūlea's trip to Palmyra Atoll. The sail to Palmyra is the first deep-ocean training mission for Hōkūlea's upcoming worldwide voyage in which the Hawaiian canoe will circumnavigate the Earth using traditional Polynesian navigation techniques. The crew carry with them the idea that we are all crew members on Canoe Earth and, just as on Hōkūle'a, we need to care for one another an our resources.
