Thailand has come good on its promise to evict some four thousand ethnic Hmong asylum seekers and send them back to Laos.

Despite strong objections from human rights groups and the US, who fear they will face persecution, the Thai Army was sent in to load the refugees onto trucks and drive them to the Lao border from where they had settled in Petchabun province.

The Hmong are a mountain people from of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Burma who helped US forces during the Vietnam War. Many in Laos fought under CIA advisers during the so-called "secret war" before the country fell to the communists in 1975.

More than 300-thousand Laotians, mostly Hmong, are known to have fled to Thailand since 1975. They claim they have been persecuted by the Lao government ever since.

Most were either repatriated or resettled in third countries, particularly the United States, but Washington has said it has no plans to resettle more Hmong.

The Thai government claims most of the Hmong are economic migrants who entered the country illegally and have no claims to refugee status. The army's coordinator for the operation said the Hmong were being driven out of the camp in military trucks and would then be put on 110 buses going to the border town of Nong Khai, and then across to Laos.

The Thai army denied allegations of brutality by one human rights group, which said callers from inside the camp had used their mobile phones to report violence and bloodshed.

The Laos government has rejected international concerns, saying they will proceed with a "humanitarian policy" for resettling the Hmong.

New York-based 'Human Rights Watch' called the deportation "appalling" and a low point for current Thai government.

  • Don't mad at Thai and Laos...Mad at GVP and US...they are the one that started the problem...they must be the one that solved the freaken problem...instead they put their tail on their balls and let thai and laos dealt with this shit....shame on American and GVP...im hmong myself...but i hate to when our leaders and US doing nothing to help the hmongs who were left behind torture and perscute....shame on GVP and America...

  • I hate to admit this but Hmong ppl are hella stupid. Everyday, Hmong are being persecuted in Laos but yet we have an organization called "LAO FAMILY" which is made up of Hmong ppl (not a single Lao person involved). Some Hmong are so confused...they think they are Laotion.

YES, this statement is for all u Hmong in America. OPEN UR EYES....U DUMB ASS LAO FAMILY. By calling urself that name... are u the one killing these poor hmong in Thailand?

How could we blame them and not ourself?

  • @ayakalo Soldiers have More readiness for Every Situation And Expenditure For Operation is Lower Than other organization, Furthermore Thai soldiers and military truck Ain't used For only The war. They Take multi roles in almost situation Therefore It is Not Surprise to see Thai Soldiers and military Truck in Transportation And It wasn't done by force and violence at all. It isn't possible to use limousine car to transport refugee.

  • im totally agree with some of you guys....too many hmong ppl are confused.."why do we(hmong ) called our community"lao family"..and not a single laotian person is a member of the community..WHY do we(HMONG) have to stuck with that name? anyone know?..thought long time ago , (hmong) came from CHINA>....is it that right?..

  • @iforgotmyscreenname1 correction...it is the communist party (a political party) who are killing the Hmongs. The name "Lao Family" refers to the people of Laos. Laos is covered with all sorts of people. We are not stupid, the only stupid person here is the person who cannot get his/her point across without using profanity.
