This is the final working prototype of the production version (will be available for purchase) of the 4th axis. Special Mach3 macros make it possible to switch back and forth from indexer (axis) to spindle modes.

What's new? Bigger than last version. More powerful thanks to new servo drive from CNCdrive. Simplified for production (read: much less expensive) by eliminating idler and threaded pre load collar. New GT2 belt is stronger and much quieter. Higher quality, more accurate spindle.

What's not done yet? Index sensor will be moved back between pulley and frame and there is a belt guard that is not shown in the vid.

  • "Production Version"... when are you going to sell me one? :-) Seriously, how much are you thinking of selling them for? Have you considered selling plans?

    Thanks for the excellent videos!

  • See the video response video for the latest version. Basic 4th axis with belt, pulleys, belt covers, home sensor is US$ 700

Optional electric or Pneumatic CNC controlled spindle lock not shown. No fixed price on that option yet.

  • Woow!!, Amazing, man!! Simple and wonderfull, clever and original.

  • Let's see, cut here, drill and tap there. Servo motor here, cog belt there. When will the 5 axis version be ready? Very nice build!!

  • Just posted the final video in this series showing the 4th axis cutting and hard tapping steel.

Table X travel increased now to 16.4"

  • that is quite good for an X2. have you had a chance to turn any steel?

  • My new table will have 15.5 X and 6.3 Y Another .8" is available in a pinch by letting the wipers go past the rail ends.

Stock X3 is listed at Grizzly as 15.875 and 5.75

  • what kind of travel to you expect to obtain over the stock form?

i'm planning on picking up an X3 myself.... or an SX3. i can't decide if I really need the "S".

  • My current project is building a complete new table from scratch with ball slides and more travel. The table and saddle in this video are now is listed on Ebay. Just drop it on your X2 and you're ready to rock.

  • Thanks for the compliments. The mill is now all servo powered. This is the first vid with the servos . . zoom!
