Everyone that knows me knows just how much I love Frank Sinatra. Ever since I was a little kid I've been jamming to his swingin' style of singing. And, like many other men, as I grew older his songs of love and loss became very relevant to me.

I have always tried to upload things that, to my knowledge, wasn't available on YouTube already. I have a very extensive collection of Sinatra recordings but almost all of them have been uploaded by other users so I never offered any of my Sinatra recordings. Recently, I became aware that outtakes of Sinatra's recording sessions have been uploaded here on YouTube. This presented me with a chance to upload some of my Sinatra things that haven't already been offered here.

I think that Sinatra's outtakes are very interesting and entertaining. They give fans of this iconic performer a chance to listen to what it was like when the "Voice" was shaping what would become some of the most famous recordings of all time into the definitive and legendary performances that so many of us are now familiar with. At the same time, it gives us a chance to share in the obvious fun, joy and love that the Chairman of the Board had when he made these memorable sides. Here is Sinatra singing the Rodgers and Hart classic "Where Or When". It has since been reissued as a part of the Sinatra masterpiece, "Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely". Notice how tender Sinatra sings while also goofing around with the lyric. Great stuff.

Oh, just as an aside, for the uninitiated, the guy who Sinatra refers to as "Suntan" in the clip is Sinatra's long-time accompanist, Bill Miller. Sinatra gave him the nickname "Suntan Charlie" due to Miller's pallid complexion. He often joked about Miller's paler-the-usual skin tone. Great stuff.

  • One of my favorite outtakes! This one and "I Got Plenty of Nothing" are pretty hilarious! Man, can us perfectionist artists relate to the frustration of something not coming out just quite right! Songs, such as this one, can be brutal to sing because of it's softness and subtlety. One minor hiccup and it's ruined!

  • @SergioVellatti Yeah, Serg, you are absolutely right when you say that singing these kinds of ballads requires a great deal of concentration. FS sang so many great ballads so very well that it's easy for a person to get the idea that singing them is a piece of cake. But ballad singing is very difficult, especially when it's done right. And who has ever sung ballads "righter" than the Voice?

  • @beeshort, what a crackin' gem of a piece... I look forward with glee to any more you post for us to enjoy.. Hee hee, Frankie has/had a very well developed funny bone.. I really grinned listening to this and then he 'sang' it properly and my heart melted... *sighs*

Best regards from Wales UK :0)x

  • @wenglishsal Thanks for enjoying it. Part of me thinks I shouldn't upload Sinatra outtakes because I'm not sure if FS would have approved. But I'm of the opinion that most of his fans would really enjoy this stuff. I know I have enjoyed listening to the sessions outtakes. Maybe I'll upload a couple more and then stop. It really depends on the feedback I get from people. If they don't think I'm disrespecting Sinatra's legacy with the uploads, I'll post more.

  • Please keep posting these!

  • how did you get this?

  • These outtakes are amazing, we get to glimpse the Master working at his craft - its like being able to watch Michelangelo chip away at marble - upload more!

  • i LOVE these old recordings, and how you can hear the little tiny imperfections... it's all too clear-cut and autotuned today.

  • Gorgeous

  • Thanks for posting, it is appreciated !!

  • Love the "outtakes"!! The more I hear them the more I realize Sinatra DID read music and was quite the musician!!Thanks!!!

  • Frank was VERY strict on when he recorded a song...it had to be perfect. even if it was 10 takes on a song, it had to be just right. He would hate listening to his records in the car or w/e, because he would cringe right before a bar where he messed up. But this is very interesting...keep em coming,
