Pulling out Stuck Trucks in Guatemalan Mud

Came upon this traffic jam in the mountains of Guatemala. The big truck had been stuck for at least a day and was taking up more than half the road.

Everyone else was trying to get past him but was also getting stuck in about a foot and a half of runny, slimy mud.

Our 1999 Toyota 4Runner V6 5-speed drove right through - slinging mud and sliding, but we never stopped - and then offered to pull about six other trucks through when they got stuck behind us.

Here's one.

Yes, you'll note that the vehicle being pulled out is another Toyota 4x4 - and doesn't have bald tires on it, either.

The drivers here are completely terrified to use their 4x4 systems, as well as to hit mud running. They creep in as slowly as they can and when they get stuck, then they try to put it into 4 wheel drive, often getting out of their vehicles in a foot of mud to lock in the front hubs.

Well, that's why he was stuck.

No - these people are just scared. They're pretty poor - the truck is all they have - and they're afraid to hurt it.

I have a lot more experience driving in mud and know you just have to hit it hard.

Plus, those Toyotas are pretty hard to hurt.

yeah thats true i have a 1999 4runner also but mine is an auto i live in the city so it dosent matter.
