don't want to sound stupid here because i will be training in shotokan in january. My question is which type or style would you say is the best. My training will be free so its not a money thing or anything stupid. I am just curious as to what other students think. Thanks in advance

Differences in fighting styles and fighting methods don't make as much relevance in combat as you'd think.

In my experience, I think it's best to focus on what fighting and teaching method flows better with your nature, philosophy, tendencies and your body.

Shotokan Karate is one of the most effective Japanese fighting styles you'll find, you'll have a very solid, all-around balanced, precise & well controlled style with a method of merging snapping speeds with devastating blows.

It'll all depend on how much the school/teacher plus yourself can max the real potential of Shotokan.

Yea very true. I personally like kata the most since I can really really get into it. It also helps when everyone is into it. That's why I try to kia the loudest, lol. Keep up the energy in the dojo. It's only after you become a black belt when you start to learn more complicated things like torite (spelling) or other grappling like techniques.

Where do you guys train? What Country/State?

i agree 100%, and thats what almost all mma fighters lack. but the ones that have that mentality separate them selves from the pack, like machida

Many MMA guys that I have seen don't have very good standup. They stand right in range, trading and deflecting punches off the gloves, each one desperately trying to survive long enough to take the other guy down and have a BJJ match.
