I hear you, comrade. I first saw X in 86, so I was late to the party. I envy you. I was only 16. Jane's Addiction opened.
Too bad you couldn't have stayed into the 90s. Starting in 91, John Doe did at least 2 shows a year at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. The place held 150 & everyone sat completely silent as JD played acoustic. I saw about 12 shows there--best concerts ever.
No alcohol and no talking whatsoever. We treated the music with reverence, which at first threw JD off a bit.
