Kind of like in the movie the matrix when the oracle tells neo not to worry about the vase and then neo turns around and bumps the vase. Therefore the only reason it happened is because it was mentioned. If you see a pattern in the market the masses will recognize it and act moving the market in the direction expected to go.

Psychology is the only thing that moves the markets. But the study of psychology in the market is useless because price changes before the fundamentals are realized for common traders. If you study technical you can predict what will happen before it happens not after it happened. Why patterns work is because once they are recognized by the masses as a signal then the entire market is moved by that signal. If there is a head and shoulders signal everybody will sell and the price will drop.

@WolYou R.N. Elliott observed this phenomenon before it became widespread. Elliott wave works because it is market psychology, I use it to trade forex, which is such a large market that no one person or group of people can control it, even with million dollar accounts. Elliott works because people change their minds.

So when traders believe in Elliotts claims, they will create what Elliott predicted. Thats what I call a real mass psychology. He could have written any sort of crap. As long as the traders follow it, the crappy curves will actually appear.
