The Saints - influential Australian punk rock band. Found some old 35mm negatives wasting away in a box in my attic. Carefully restored them (using Photoshop and a really smart little filter called Noise Ninja), and uploaded them here for your entertainment. They were taken at Leeds Queens Hall. The band were supporting The Stranglers along with the Drones. I even have an exact date. It was 15.10.77!

  • Thanks drumatic64. Mystery is now solved. I went to so many, some of them get confused. Found via web search that it was Leeds Queens Hall 15.10.77. The Saints and the Drones were support acts to The Stranglers! Good to put it right.

  • I think this may have been 1978... they were pretty much gone by 1979 and I think Algy (is the spelling of his name correct) was already in the Damned by 1979. Thanx for the upload... we're very proud of the Saints over here in oz!

  • You're most likely correct. I remember attending two futuramas in Leeds. Can't find a listing for them. Enjoyed the Saints .. you are rightly proud of them!

  • ONE OF THE 10 GREATEST PUNK BANDS. MAYBE EVEN TOP 5

  • ..TOP UPLOAD!!..one of the best singles from this Golden era,..again, one of these songs that it is a real tragedy that it aint beter known!! Smashin work pal!! :-D

  • this perfect song.

  • I was at that Stranglers gig. It was the biggest audience for a punk gig at the time, and unfortunately most of the crowd just wanted something to pogo to. When they played 'The Story of Love' the slow one from the first album, the bottle started flying and the band had to retreat. The DJ came back on and said something like 'that is a bloody great band and you're all bastards' or somesuch and got bottles as well. I got bashed on the back of the head by someone for agreeing with him!

  • great stuff! thanks for sharing this! Futurama did come after these guys or this incarnatrion anyhow. This has Algy Ward on bass who wewnt on join the Damned in 79 for Machine Gun Ettiquettelp and later went on to from heavy rock band TANK.

  • Oh dear, our Billy (white wedding) lifted quite a bit from this eh? min 1.40... This is the album version? I've heard a more 'austere' version before?

  • I too was there at the Queens Hall Leeds to see the Stranglers and The Saints. I had bought 'this perfect day' and played it none stop. If you were there, perhaps you can remind me - I seem to remember the saints came on obviously very drunk and all carrying beer cans. I think I remember they were abysmal and halfway through a number the lead singer said 'fuck it' and they left the stage.

  • I havent heard this in 30 years and it sounds as good as ever.

Reminds me of my youth growing up in Santa Barbara CA.
