Want to be competitive in the world of fashion buying? Follow these steps to make yourself a top candidate.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Formal education
An eye for fashion
An interest in sales, marketing, and consumer trends

Step 1: Enroll in a fashion merchandising program at an art school or college.

Tip: Look for a program that includes courses in accounting, marketing, management, textiles, and design.

Step 2: Get an internship at a boutique or department store. You'll gain first-hand experience.
