  • Yup. I stumbled across Lee and Kaluta's stuff in the 80's as an undergrad reading HEAVY METAL, and I bought their graphic comic. The best sense I could make of it was 'what would happen if the decaying decadent Hapsburg Austro-Hungarian Empire had survived to explore outer space and was being taken over by punk rockers and militant feminists?". This was several years before Suicide Girls or Riot Grrrls, and the idea of female empowerment was pretty engaging. Now we can see it as almost prescient

  • I bought the graphic novel when Epic released it! Excellent stuff! I've heard that Ms. Lee originally created it as a stage play. I would have loved to have seen it if the graphic novel is any indication of what it was! I'll look out for the IDW reprints at my local comics store. Thanks for the tip!

  • STARSTRUCK, by Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta, is the best comics masterpiece you've never read.

See 'Riot Grrrls Conquer the Universe!' in this adult illustrated epic. As fun, smart, sexy, and demented as STAR WARS, Monty Python, and BARBARELLA put together!

It's being reprinted now in monthly issues with expanded art and glorious new color, from IDW Comics. Grab it now before everyone rolls their eyes at you for being so unhip!
