  • I was watching this live in 1989. Everyone was amazed! There was no "unplugged" craze yet. This performance started it all. I ran out and bought an acoustic guitar the next week. The rest is, as they say, history......

  • Vote for the most Iconic VMA Performance, Bon Jovi needs all the help they can get! Just google 'Most Iconic VMA Performance and please vote for Bon Jovi! Keep this on top so all Bon Jovi fans can see!

  • This and Tesla's "5 Man Acoustical Jam" revived the acoustic guitar and just rocked.... i cant even think of any words for it.... just amazing

  • i dont understand how michael jackson got more votes than them for most iconic vma performance i mean hes good but not that good to win over two guys rocking a whole place with nothing but acoustics no drums or anything while he had all lighting and dancing and his crowd was nowhere near rocking.

  • Jon's great but I think it would be cool if Richie got to sing lead on a Bon Jovi song that's written specifically for Richie to sing.

  • I had never paid much attention to Bon Jovi prior to this performance-Y'know,Oh,another "hair" band,whoopee-then I watched THIS in '89,and wow...I was impressed. It isn't all that hard to make someone mediocre sound good in the studio;playing live is the REAL test, and boy did these two pass with flying colors! Great memory.

  • OK I like Bon Jovi too, but I remember in those years, the old rockers said that these were two long hair guys with few talent trying unsuccessfully to sound like ("rock gods") Robert Plant and Jimmy Page or others like them.

Years go by. The 21st century MTV stars are being criticized and compared to the old stars. It's just history repeating...

  • the best band ever!!!!!!

  • @TheFlatpick .This surely has to be the most iconic MTV VMA video of all time!! A performance about real music and musicians playing from the soul. Strip the glitz, glamour and hype that suffocate the performances of today. This is raw talent at its very best. Jon and Ritchie owned the stage and should be crowned for starting what later became the MTV Unplugged series following this performance " so keep your pseudo punk, hip hop, pop rock junk and your digital dj..." I say!!

  • Vote for Bon Jovi!
