I have always really liked the Peter Richard Conte performance recording on the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ of this composition. He doesn't rush the piece like many other organists seem to do like they are just trying to hurry up and get it over with which sadly kills the beauty and impact of the entire program.

@chwidder Absolutely true. I learned this movement in about a month. And played it on a 3 manual tracker in a large cathedral, without electrical assistance or pistons. It was tiring (no Barker levers), but I knew the piece COLD.
I think this woman plays the piece way too fast; it doesn't need to be that frantic. The harmonies are frantic enough, without the wildly fast tempi.
With a very large room, you couldn't play it this fast anyway; it would sound ridiculous!
Stop and smell the roses!

Great video. Thanks for posting! Very interesting to see behind the scenes and to see it takes 3 people to keep this organ going in order to perform this piece! LIke keeping a huge truck on the road or some such thing!

can you do a barefoot pedal video with her?;)
-
no, she has shoes on.

Yes indeed. Sorry for that.

did she pushed the pedals barefoot?

Tout à fait d'accord avec clarabella40 sur la façon dont est jouée ce 1er mouvement. J'en ajoute : c'est pénible. Désolé.
Not so bad. Difficult to compare with Daniel Roth at St Sulpice, for sure, but you can hear so many massacred versions that this one looks passable !
