He's an intelligent Ape, but I get the feeling that it's not intelligence so much as memory/ repetition that he's using.
That, and I'm pretty sure it's hard for any normal Chimpanzee to chance across a lighter and learn how to use it like it was intended. I'd be pretty impressed if any chimp anywhere could make a fire without some kind of training or human tools.
