Too good to go unheard!

Here's some great folk by Eric Andersen, a great talent but one of Vanguard Records' most forgotten artists. These are three of my favorite songs from his 1968 LP, MORE HITS FROM TIN CAN ALLEY:

1) "Sixteen Year Grudge"
2) "Hello Sun"
3) "Honey"

While comparisons to Bob Dylan's mid-60s folk/rock style are obvious, Eric's style on this album also reminds me of Scottish folkie Al Stewart, and some of his other songs sound a lot like the Blues Project, who recorded Andersen's best-known composition, "Violets of Dawn."

Andersen's back catalog has been totally neglected by Vanguard Records. This album was released on some weird European bootleg CD a few years ago, but the damn thing's apparently out of print and impossible to find. So once again, we're left with the original record.

I found my copy of the album (complete with water-damaged cover) in a book shop in Kent, Ohio.

  • I love Eric Anderson and I too never heard these gems. Thanks so much for posting.

  • Glad you enjoyed them. Anderson came here to Pittsburgh a few months ago with Tom Paxton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get to the show.

  • I echo request for "Avalanche"!! Thanks-

  • Sorry, never heard of it. This is the only Andersen I have.

  • I am also a big fan of Eric, from the Blue River period and its follow-up , so this is interesting to hear.

  • I wore this album out when it came out. Great artist!!! Thanks for sharing this!

  • Anyone have chords to "Time run like a freight train"?

  • Love this first track. hey myrecordcollection you havent uploaded anything for a while - we all miss you

  • If Vanguard didn't have it's head up it's ass (now owned by The Welk Music Group yeah Lawrence Welk's idiot sons), this would be in print again. The mastered it for CD once but the engineer left the building while doing the transfer and it sounds like it was run over by a truck! Ah stupidity ... they walk among us.

  • I think he left Vanguard after this record, which I've never heard (thanks for posting!). _Avalanche_ might have been the next record, but it was on Warner, I think. (I have it, but never listened to it much). "Hello Sun" was on the Vanguard _Best_, but it might have been a different take. I don't agree that "Violets" is his best-known song, that would have to be "Thirsty Boots," and I'm not sure that even "Blue River," "Is It Really Love at All," "Close the Door Lightly," and "Rolling" are

  • This is one of the few elpees I buy whenever I come across it in a thrift shop or tag sale. Of course I allus give 'em away so I think I'm down to two now...

  • This was his greatest album for me. "Tin Can Alley" track was the best. I think he's from outside Buffalo. Who is the girl in front?

  • The last time I saw Tom Paxton was about 30 years ago at some small club in NJ. He was great.

And Eric Anderson is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks again for the upload.
