Limenaria, Thassos

Limenaria is the second biggest town on Thassos after Limenas and a perfect base for exploring the south of the island. Limenaria meaning in Greek is "the smaller town". The history of this little town is close related to mining industry. Speidel company extracted mineral resources in Limenaria from 1903 until few years ago. Higher up the harbour of Limenaria there is the Palataki, which use to house Speidel headquarters. Even mining impact on the surroundings can still be noticed, the stunning beaches and the pine carpeted hills around Limenaria are a good reason for spending your summer there.
