Lissajous figures are created by displaying two sound waves at right angles to each other: one on the x axis, the other on the y axis. This video starts by displaying two sine waves at unison. Then partials are added to create an increasingly accurate sawtooth wave. This is then repeated at intervals of an octave, a fifth and a major third.

The audio file file was created using the open source software csound.

Sound and graphics by Don Morgan, 2010.
