This is a selection of the scenes performed by Christopher Plummer in the film "Inside Daisy Clover" (U.S.A., 1965, directed by Robert Mulligan).

Set in the Thirties, the film is about the turning of a poor and wild 15-year-old girl, Daisy Clover (played by Natalie Wood), into a Hollywood star by an unscrupulous producer. In this film Christopher Plummer plays one of his villain roles, that of Hollywood producer Raymond Swan.

In Part III:
In the first scene Swan threatens Lewis Wade (Robert Redford), the young actor of Swan Studios with whom Daisy is in love, to have him arrested for his recent night out with Daisy. So Wade makes his marriage proposal to Daisy, and in the second scene the marriage is going to be celebrated.

(What happens between the two scenes showed) Daisy and Wade go on their honeymoon, but one morning Daisy wakes up alone in a motel: Wade has abandoned her. Then Daisy goes back to Swan's house. There she undergoes a scene of jealousy from Swan's wife, Melora, who proves to be in love with Wade, and who reveals Wade's homosexuality to Daisy.

The second scene of this Part III takes place the morning after Daisy's return. Daisy has spent the night in a chair by the swimming pool, and it is there that Swan finds her, still asleep. Swan seems to have spent a bad night, too, and, in front of asleep Daisy, he performs a SOLILOQUY (NOT TO BE MISSED!!!) where he has his only moment of sincere tenderness in the whole film. The soliloquy ends with the famous KISS between Christopher Plummer and Natalie Wood.

P.S. "Inside Daisy Clover" is at least the third of Chris's films I know in which Chris plays a man who is discarded by a woman in favour of another one:
1) here both Daisy and Melora seem to like Robert Redford better than Chris;
2) in "Stage Struck" Susan Strasberg likes Henry Fonda better than Chris;
3) in "Hanover Street" Lesley-Anne Down likes Harrison Ford better than Chris.
Each time I am absolutely amazed and think: BUT HOW UNLIKELY DOES THIS STORY SOUND???

  • Sorry to all the die-hard Plummer fans - I'm still a novice here - why is that last kiss scene so monumental? I mean, nothing happens between them and Plummer just seems to get more evil as the film progresses...I'm confused!

  • (I) Though it appears that here I am the head of die-hard Plummer fans :-), I'm afraid I'm not the right person to answer your question. In my opinion there is nothing really memorable about this movie - and I'm glad this is also what Plummer thinks and writes in his autobiography.

  • II) I suppose the kiss is famous because it is a kiss between two top sexy icons of the Sixties. But what is truly more noteworthy about the scene is by far the monologue - an excellent piece of acting, whatever the value of the whole movie may be.

  • (III) This said, my personal top list of Plummer's film performances is made up of a quite different kind of movies ("The Royal Hunt of the Sun" holds firmly the first place).

  • How old was Natalie Wood when she made this?

    -Lily

  • The film was released in 1965. In 1964 she was 26 and he was 34.

  • I saw this movie on video in the early 1990's and must have gone back over this kiss scene a million times, even pausing in parts. I'm surprised the video tape didn't break.

  • @dglekjofg Where can I see "The Royal Hunt of the Sun"?

  • Where is the rest of the movie? This is cut down all through the movie and cut off before the ending!

  • a great scene with Christopher & Natalie.....he was one handsome guy!!.....love it when he scoops her up in his arms......thanks for posting this...

  • oh..i have watched "fall of rome' and triple cross. plummer is actually charming and great actor..can anyone give an honor to that!? i love to watch him over and over.. wish i was born on the 60's!

  • I'm a lifelong fan of Christopher Plummer, and Natalie Wood, and this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine.

  • @drsadz WHORE!

  • Agreed. Christoper Plummer is so magnetic in this film. So sexy when he has her in his arms & kisses her. Like Rcc said, it's one of my best memories of this movie. Inside Daisy Clover is not a fantastic film nor is it a very bad one. Personally, I watch it because I think all of the performances are strong, & I am a NW & CP fan. I can't discern what exactly the holes are in this movie, but I like the great moments well enough to rewatch. As Dglek said, CP's monologue is a winning scene.

  • to holden: i totally agree. I must have seen this movie probably 20 years ago and this is the only scene i remember. He is so hot & he kisses her like any redblooded woman wants to be kissed. And the picking up part is just as hot. Phew. :-)

  • Oh, when he picks her up...wow! It's such a sexy scene. I get goose pimples. Inside Daisy Clover is not a particularly good film, but I love that scene.
