...when OS X can't find the server. Although OS X is perfectly capable of printing to a printer shared by a Windows PC, you may have trouble getting your Mac to actually find the PC on the network.

  • hey i hope this works! how do you find your server name and printer name? i know what my printer is called but I don't really put 'brotherdcp7020' do I?

  • @bman1209 The server name is just the name of the computer, the printer is connected to, on the network which you can find by right clicking Computer and opening Properties. The printer name is the name the printer is shared with on the network. This can be set by viewing the properties of the printer in Devices and Printers or, if it's running Server 2008, Server Management>Roles>Print and Document Services>Print Management>Print Servers>Local>Printers.

  • it said "ares"

is that the ares gaming series from asus, or is that something completely different?

  • @gumberly It's the name of a virtual machine on my iMac. Ares is a Greek God, as is Chaos and Chronos which you possibly also saw in the video. I'm afraid it's nothing to do with Asus in this case, I just name all of the computers on the network after Greek Gods. :)

  • i connected my hp AiOne printer to my iMac with a network cable and it worked fine. Now I have both items connected to a router with network cables and it cannot print, (sends the job to print then stops and says printer is offline etc.) any thoughts?

  • I found it and everything have the IP address and everything. But when I press "print" it asks for a username and password for my printer... but i never had to set up a username and password... at least i don't recall... any help?

  • i followed all the steps you provided but i still cannot get my macbook pro to print

  • Folks, please note that for certain printers, typically all-in-one devices and particularly for Lexmark wireless AIOs,, you *HAVE* to go to themanufacturer's website and pick up a package of software to install. Otherwise, you can ping theprinter and queue to the printer but it won't actually print!! I wasted hours today to learn that ...

  • Thanks for showing me the Advanced button. It didn't fix my problem but at least I'm further along.

  • hey, i got it working thanks to your awesome video! Today my sister asked me to setup wireless printing on her new windows 7 laptop, which literally took 10 seconds. What is wrong with my MBP or SL? Even after it's connected, it still doesn't see it, do you know why?
