This was the opening number played by Sparky and Rhonda Rucker at Skip and Judy's home on March 3, 2007. It is a traditional Appalachian folk song. Skip and Rhonda and Sparky are three of the people that originally started the house concert tradition. It's a way for traveling folk singers to have a place to stay while touring. Touring musicians literally sing for their supper... and a bed. Check out Sparky and Rhonda on their web site: www.sparkyandrhonda.com
I saw Sparky open for John Hammonds at a local joint in the late 60's. At the time he was playing slide guitar on a old National. Some years later I ran into him and he said that guitar had been stolen. I think he changed a lot of his repertoire after that.

Wonderful and great to see you carrying on the tradition of educating people on our great American music and preserving it. Keep on keeping on, Sparky !

I knew Sparky in Knoxville in the '60s. It's wonderful to know he's still around, still smiling, still sharing his music. You look very happy, Sparky, and you and Rhonda make a lovely couple. Long may you sing, brother!
