so is this considered a cosmetic dental operation?
-
Well, the person wants to look better and the only was to make it better is to do this procedure and then make porcelain crowns. at thi age the person does not want braces and the final result was great. The person is happy with the outcome and to top it all this person is now getting married in a few months, with a much nicer smile.

wow anyone who does this without having had braces or has straight teeth are stupid... whats the point !??!?!? no offense.

is this considered cosmetic? reason i ask is that if i want to go through the airforce dental program i dont think "waterlase" would be available..i dont think.

@bigrndahouse
Although we are cosmetically improving the appearance of this person, this procedure is still in the field of Periodontics. This is gingivectomy with some alveoloplasty involved. You never know the airforce may have one right now or if not they may be getting one soon. Good luck!

i cant tell you how much im so intrigued by this. I cant wait to be a dentist im contemplating periodontics or ortho just dont know which one. keep up the uploads..thx

@bigrndahouse Either of the two fields is good. Ortho is the cleanest since there is no surgery involved. Perio on the other hand has evolved tremendously. We now have a lot of Periodontist that do Implants as compared to the past where they were only involved in gum disease. Dentistry has seen a lot of progress in terms of technology in the past 20 years. It's a great time to be a dentist.
