Not the original plot, BUT CONTAINS SPOILERS.
Christian, the writer, and the Duke are mesmerized by Satine's seductive power. They use everything they got to get her attention: poetry and money. Nevermind enemies, the Duke is also the finacial suporter for the play Christian is writing, in which Satine stars. Apparently, she made her choice: she wants the writer... but the Duke is a powerful man and won't let that happen, and at first Harold Zidler argues with the courtesan, afraid it's going to be the end of his beloved Moulin Rouge. But instead of following up, Satine believes she can deceive the Duke while she's with Christian, but their love was just too strong....
To make matters worse, Satine learns that the Duke, mad with jealousy, is going to kill Christian. In order to protect him, she breaks up. But Christian just can't stand it so he sells his typewriter in order to get the money Zidler needs to save his Moulin Rouge. Then they can have a happy life...
... not forgetting Satine is sick.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own anything used to make this video. The song is the ending title song, certainly one of the most beautiful I ever heard, by Craig Armstrong.
The scenes are all original from Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge, considered one of the greatest american musicals
