What saved you was your presence of mind, willingness to keep flying the airplane, and your knowledge of your aircraft. The de-ice capability was certainly helpful, and the SV was nice to have.
I was so impressed that you worked with what you had, tried to make it better (ie, other power settings and mixtures), and then returned back to a working configuration each time. Excellent debugging.
Every Part 91 pilot should watch this video.
This is an inspiring video, thanks for posting it.

Well handled, Captain. (If you aren't ex-military, or commercial, you sure have earned the title and the four stripes anyway.) Reminds me of those sessions we used to have around the bar that started with "There I was at 20,000 feet upside down with a pocket full of nickels and the coke machine was empty." You sure have some nice boxes in that airplane and you knew how io use them. Geez! You can even see what your going to hit....in 3D!!

This is why I have given up night flying other than to keep current. One engine failure in VMC during daytime was all it took. Great flying, but no amount of great flying can outweigh that wonderful picture of your family. That says it all.

good piloting

JAA CPL ME/IR/FI here, thrilling to watch/listen. Calmly handled by both pilot and controller, well done.

Synthetic vision makes for a lower pilot overhead. This may be especially critical is a high load environment where things have gone wrong. Go to the NTSB database and you'll find all sorts of reports for pilots who failed to fly the plane.

This guy was so relaxed during this whole drama and also what a beautiful family you have. I'm so glad that you lived to fly another day and more importantly that you didn't leave your family behind.

Well handled sir, we (pilots) can learn from this experience you shared, thankyou!
Thats the exact reason why i hate being single engine in IMC ..

is that you? i must say you got it all fine, couldn't get any more info in there and the choices you took where in a heartbeat and correct just by the look of the video and the info you gave in it on radio, really proud to say that's the way we should keep it when something goes on when flying
