    The eruption was in 79 AD.

  • @roseisbabybear No, the letter about the eruption was written in 105AD. Then it goes back in time to 79AD where the described event unfolds. Thus the voice over. I know it was filmed a while ago, and I didn't really have enough actors to do what I wanted, but at the beginning, Plinny Younger is supposed to be an old man, writing about the braves deeds of his uncle back in 79AD during the Eruption. Thus, the beginning of the movie is in 105AD, when the letter is written. It says 105 and 79
